What are Millennial Life Skills?
If you’ve been hanging around jessicafwalker.com you’ve probably noticed I offer services as a Millennial Life Skills Coach. And you’re probably like, “Jessica, wtf is a life skills coach?”
The answer is, a life skills coach is someone who helps you adult. There is a gap between the things we are expected to do as adults and the things we know how to do. I am here to help fill that gap. Or, another way to explain it is, Millennial Life Skills is what your Helicopter Parents do for you, so you don’t have to do it yourself.
Life skills is a very general term, that honestly, I don’t even understand the full scope of sometimes.
It covers everything from relationships to careers, cooking and cleaning, and home repair. Life skills is everything they used to teach in school, but cut because of funding. Things like Home Economics, Shop (or woodworking), auto repair, music, drama, art, etc.
Millennial Life Skills is paying your bills on time, being aware of your debts, and budgeting. It also includes making doctors appointments. Understanding how insurance works, Knowing when to call a plumber, and how to avoid the call and do it yourself. It’s about knowing how to protect your health.
Millennial Life Skills are filling out a resume, going to interviews, getting a job, and keeping your job. It’s knowing when you’ve outgrown your job, and how to take the next step forward in your career.
In addition, life skills are about human relations, and understanding yourself to know whether or not monogamy is something you are capable of. Its about being a good person, and generally ridding yourself of ignorance.
Why is it important to know how to do these things for ourselves?
We learn these skills in a variety of ways. I will go ahead and let you know now, that I’m not going to help you change your oil via Skype. My niche is more centered around your career, and the general success of your life. There are the things learn at home like, how to change our oil from our parents, or grandparents. We get menial jobs that teach us transferable skills we can apply to future careers but also to our own personal lives. Even though we often learn these things as we go, If you have Helicopter Parents, you might have noticed that there is a lot of anxiety involved in making a doctor’s appointment, or going to an interview.
When you have successfully mastered these Millennial life skills, the anxiety isn’t there. You are in control of your own life. As you continue to visit jessicafwalker.com you’ll see more and more content regarding these subjects. But again, my favorite by far is career building and design, and adulting.
I probably can walk you through an oil change, but I can definitely teach you what to say to get a refund. And I can tell you the best way to make sure your concerns are heard if you have a complaint about service. We can talk about budgeting, getting a raise or promotion, plus so much more. Stay tuned to learn more about an incredible offer I have coming soon.
And, if there is something you want to learn, or have questions about, ASK! I’d love to hear what you feel is holding you up in life.
